Make 48 HST's, out of your green and
background fabric.
Use your favorite technique for HST units
4 1/2 inch square, Unfinished size
(4 inch finished size)
Cut 12 squares of green fabric
4 1/2 inch square, Unfinished size
(4 inch finished size)
Lay out the squares as shown.
Sew together using a 1/4" seam.
Press.
Make 12 of these star blocks.
They should measure 12 1/2
inches at this point.
Cut 48 squares of background fabric.
4 1/2 inch square, Unfinished size
(4 inch finished size)
Cut Seven (7), strips of Green fabric,
2 1/2 inches wide x Width of Fabric, (WOF)
Cut Eight (8), strips of Background fabric
2 1/2 inches wide x Width of Fabric, (WOF)
Nine patch , Width of Fabric, WOF strip sets, unit two.
Background, Green, Background
Make three of these strip sets
Cut into 2 1/2 inch sub units
Depending on the width of your fabrics
this should yield 46 - 50. You will have extras.
Using the Nine patch sub units from
the step above,
Make 20 of the Nine patch units shown.
You will have extra sub units.
Nine patch, Width of Fabric, WOF strip sets, unit one.
Green, Background, Green
Make two of these strip sets
Cut into 2 1/2 inch sub-units
Depending on the width of your fabrics, this
should yield 28 - 32. You will have extras.
You will need 1 1/2 yards of
Red fabric Green fabric Background fabric
* Yardage is generous, to allow for mis-cuts , and the smaller widths of fabric from different fabric houses.

Cut Eighteen (18), strips of the Red Fabric, 2
1/2 inches wide x Width of Fabric, (WOF)
Cut Nine (9), strips of the Background Fabric, 2 1/2
inches wide x Width of Fabric, (WOF)
Lay out the strips as shown, sew together using 1/4
inch seam allowance. Press.
Cut these strips into 12 1/2 inch sub units. You will get
3 1/2 sub units out of each strip. You will need to join
the 1/2 units to make all of the sub units you need.
You will need 31 of these sub units.
Lay out your blocks and sub units as
shown.
Piece them together using a 1/4 inch seam
allowance.
FYI, my quilt measured 60 1/2 by 78 12.
Quilt and bind.
