Backing Fabric Too Short?
Quilt Backing fabric should be 4 - 6 inches bigger than the Quilt Top.
*4 - 6 inches bigger in width and 4 - 6 inches bigger in length*
If you find you have run out of backing fabric, when you get to the end of your
quilt, you may be rolling the Quilt Top tighter than the Quilt Backing
I cut the right amount, why do I run out of backing fabric?
- Here you can see the Quilt Top, 20 inches of fabric actually takes up 20 inches.
- Here you can also see that the Quilt Backing fabric, is droopy. The same 20
inches of space, takes up 21 1/2 inches of the Quilt Backing. After you have
rolled 4 or 5 times, loosing 1 1/2" each time, you can see how you would be very
short, maybe even 6 - 10 inches short.
- To ensure a Quilt that hangs nice with no puckers in the back, roll them both the
same degree of taughtness.
