Cut six, (6),  4 1/2 by 4 1/2,
squares of your background fabric.
Fabric "A"
Using your favorite HST, Half Square
Triangle Method,

Make two 4 1/2 x 4 1/2 inch, HST units
Fabric "A" and Fabric "C"

Fabric "B"

Cut one 4 1/2 x 4 1/2 square from
Fabric "D"
Using your favorite HST, Half Square
Triangle Method,

Make two 4 1/2 x 4 1/2 inch, HST units
Fabric "B" and Fabric "C"
Using your favorite HST, Half Square
Triangle Method,

Make two 4 1/2 x 4 1/2 inch, HST units
Fabric "A" and Fabric "D"
Using your favorite HST, Half Square
Triangle Method,

Make two 4 1/2 x 4 1/2 inch, HST units
Fabric "A" and Fabric "B"
You should have two of each combo.
8 HST units
Lay out your units as shown.

Sew togther, press.
Your block should be 16 1/2 inches
square, at this point.
Cut two, (2), 12 inch squares.
Fabric "E"

Cut in half diagonally.
Sew two squares of Fabric "E"
to the ends of two of your Fabric "C
strips.
Sew picture at left.
Sew the four triangles to the center
Tulip Basket Block, as shown.

Your block should be 22 1/2 inch
square at this point.
Cut four, (4), strips of Fabric "C".

3 inches  x 22 1/2 inches
Cut four, (4), squares of Fabric "E"
"3" inches square.

Lay out as shown.

Sew and press.
Cut four, (4) strips of Fabric "A"
6 1/2 inches x 27 1/2 inches
Cut four, (4) squares of Fabric "B"
6 1/2 inches x 6 1/2 inches
Sew two "B" squares to the end of two
"A" strips.
As shown.
Lay out as shown.
Sew and press.

You are finished with your quilt top!!!

Now Quilt it using your favorite technique.

It should measure 40 1/2 inches square at this point.

We realize there are quilters of all levels, beginner
to advanced.  We want all to participate.

We realize that denser quilting will shrink the quilt
more than an open quilting design.

We will accept all entries, 38 - 42 inches square.
Rules for the Texas Longarm Quilt Challenge, 2008

1)  Open to active members of Texas Longarm Quilt Guild.
  An active member, is one who participates and attends at least half of the meetings.

2)  No fee to enter you quilt. We ask the members entering their quilts, to add a new quilting tool,
fabric, pantograph or longarm quilting book.  These nice items, will be added to the prize
packages.

3)  Pictures of your finished quilt, should be emailed to                         
CarrieDugan@QuiltFrog.com, by September 8, 2008.

4)  Pictures will be uploaded, and anonymous voting will take place, via the Texas Longarm
Yahoo group. September 9 through September 19.

5)  Prizes and ribbons will be awarded to all who meet this challenge!!

  1)  Viewers Choice
  2)  Rookie Award, (Newbie with machine less than one year).
  3)  1st, 2nd, 3rd place
  4)  and more,

When picking your fabrics,
Pick fabrics that read as a solid,
so we can see the quilting designs.
Fabric "A", is the background of the
center tulip block, and large outside
border.

Fabric "B", is the Basket and the outer
4 corners of the border.

Fabric "C" is the base of the Tulip, and
the Inner border.

Fabric "D" is the Tulip.

Fabric "E" is the background accent of
the center Tulip block and the setting
squares for the inner border.
Pick any color combination of
fabrics you desire.
